The Keres is a solid wooden chess board crafted for serious players who appreciate quality and durability. Constructed from premium Indian acacia and beechwood, this board features 55 mm squares that provide an ideal playing surface for standard Staunton chess pieces. The generous square size ensures comfortable piece placement and clear visibility during play, whether you're studying classical games or enjoying a casual match with a friend.
With its clean, unadorned design and lack of border notation, The Keres offers a timeless aesthetic that complements any setting. The natural wood construction develops character over time, with subtle variations in grain and colour adding to its individual appeal. This is a board built to last for years of regular use and becomes a valued part of any chess collection.
Please note that chess pieces are not included with this purchase and are sold separately. Choose the wood type and square size that best suits your needs from the available options above.
Paul Keres was Estonian - Northern European, like beechwood, which is one of the most common hardwoods across Scandinavia and the Baltic states. The geographic connection is genuine. Redwood's warm reddish tone also suits Keres' reputation: widely considered the greatest player never to become world champion, admired, warm, respected across the entire chess world. He was called "the crown prince of chess" - prestigious but never quite the top of the throne, which gives the name a certain elegance without competing with your marquetry boards higher up the range.
