Clockboard Chess Set

The Clockboard Chess Set takes its name from the board's distinctive marquetry decoration – an intricate inlaid surface pattern reminiscent of a clockface or mandala, assembled from multiple species of hardwood. King height 130 mm, 60 mm field.

Marquetry at this level is time-consuming and highly skilled work: each individual element is cut and fitted by hand, with the resulting surface showing crisp transitions between tones and species. The linden basswood chessmen are carved to a complementary decorative standard, making this a set where board and pieces together form a coherent work of applied art.
